LINCOLN PARK CONDOMINIUM

LINCOLN PARK CONDOMINIUM

Two apartments were previously joined to create this 3,500 square foot condominium in a modern high-rise overlooking Chicago's Lincoln Park and the southern coast of Lake Michigan. Having recently left their vintage home of 30 years, the clients sought convenient, modern amenities in an apartment suitable and intimate for them but also flexible and accommodating when hosting their children's growing families. Also critical was creating a suitable backdrop for their collection of work by regional artists and a sensitive new home for the family's personal collection of objects, mementos, and family photos.

The more public spaces, used to display art and photographs, are treated in simple gallery-like neutral colors, while private rooms and workspaces are painted in vibrant hues drawn directly from the views outside and from the client's own wardrobes. The salon-like Living Room is informally planned like a Victorian parlor, with multiple seating areas and various cabinets and platforms for the display of objects, sculpture and artwork. The Kitchen and the clients' private studies are also fitted with custom built-ins for additional collections. A passage at the rear of the apartment was transformed into the family memory vault where photos of five generations are fused together into a collage of two families.

Lincoln Park Condominium was designed by Patrick McGuire in collaboration with Kaufman O'Neil Architecture.
