CHICAGO FLAT MODEL

CHICAGO FLAT MODEL

Designed as a marketing model for a large-scale, mixed-income property, this apartment needed to appeal to multiple age groups and income levels. Conceived as the "Traditional" model, a companion townhouse model was designed concurrently as the "Contemporary" interpretation. A quick time-frame and a modest budget also meant furnishings needed to be acquired from locally-sourced, retail stock.

In response, the silhouettes of many of the furnishings are traditional, but their finishes, colors, and fabrics project a youthful palette. Artwork is simple but graphically strong and references the colors of nature. Bright acid greens and cool blues are played against muddy warm neutral colors, polished finishes are played against heavily textured rugs, and rustic wood furnishings keep formality in check. Accessories are bold, witty, and eye catching. Paint colors help define the moods and functions in each room: a warm dark neutral in the Study projects intimacy and calm, a cool pale gray in Master Bedroom is serene and ethereal, and bright green in the Guest Room is energizing and unexpected. All colors are repeated in varying shades throughout the apartment, helping to create continuity and visually link together the long sequence of spaces.

Chicago Flat Model Apartment was designed by Patrick McGuire for Related Midwest.
